Bone Broth Hot Cocoa & Homemade Marshmallows
Gut healthy hot cocoa & marshmallows? Yes, please.
Now that the weather is getting warmer, all I want to do is snuggle up with a cup of gut healthy bone broth hot cocoa. Hot cocoa wouldn’t be right without some marshmallows. Marshmallows at the grocery store are filled with corn syrup & even food dyes. These were so simple to make. I prepped these in the morning and they were ready to indulge in at night!
These were the marshmallows right before they were put in the fridge to set.
The marshmallows were a very much “trust the process” kind of recipe. They were brown up until the last step, then they turned their “normal” white color. I say this so you aren’t alarmed when you are faced with brown marshmallows in your stand mixer!
HOMEMADE GUT-HEALTHY MARSHMALLOWS
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup of water
3 to 4 scoops of gelatin (depending on how firm you want them)
1/2 cup of maple syrup
dash of salt
dash of vanilla
METHOD:
In a small sauce pan, add your water and gelatin. Let the gelatin just sit on top of the water & bloom.
Add the rest of the ingredients. Let all of the ingredients dissolve and stir occasionally.
Add this mixture to your stand mixer. Mix with the whisk attachment until it is lighter in color and fluffy. This took about 15 minutes for me.
When it is white, thick, and fluffy, add it to your dish and spread it evenly.
Let it cool in the fridge until it’s completely set. This took about 7-8 hours for me.
BONE BROTH HOT COCOA
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup bone broth
2 cups of raw milk
1 tablespoon organic cocoa powder
1 tablespoon of maple syrup
dash of vanilla
(optional) a scoop of collagen - I typically use unflavored
METHOD:
Add all of your ingredients to a small sauce pan and stir until all ingredients are combined.
Let it simmer until it’s hot, then transfer into your favorite mug.
Add your homemade marshmallows.
Cozy up on the couch and enjoy.
